hi Tim
My dog was diagoised with sub dislocation of the patella, we live in France, so language is a problem, Iam using Denes green lipped mussel extract with glucosamine, but the vet here says little excercise and lots of rest, our 5year old lab/retriever is very lively and it is hard to stop her, do I go with what she wants to do, or do I stop her runnning around, please give advice

Our 17years x breed dog gets a lot of warts, some leak and create dry lumps on them. Any advise please?

Hi Chris. Sorry to hear this. Here at Denes we do not have a specific remedy for this problem, but would suggest that contact is made with a vet, who specialises in complementary therapies and who will prepare a suitable remedy. See http://www.denes.co.uk/advice/fact_sheets/complementary_medicines.php In the meantime, if the warts weep and bleed use our skin balm, which will help soothe the problem.

Hello Mary. I am really sorry to hear of your dog’s problem. The Green Lipped Mussel with Glucosamine is a good choice, but we would recommend the addition of Greenleaf with its anti-inflammatory properties. Furthermore, as your dog is still young, we suggest that you may wish to consider seeking the opinion and advice of an orthopaedic veterinary surgeon in assessing your dog’s condition for surgery with a view to improving his longer term quality of life.

Hi Tim. Dixie, my 15-year-old Jack Russell, has been diagnosed as suffering from chronic kidney failure. Hill’s Special K/D food has been recommended. He’s not too keen on it but it does seem to be helping him. Are there other products that might also help him?

Hello Murray,
In Tim Couzen’s absence I am delighted to offer some suggestions.
Firstly, I am sorry to learn of Dixie’s condition. Kidney failure mainly affects older dogs as the kidneys start to wear out. Symptoms include increased thirst, gradual weight loss, vomiting, bad breath, mouth problems and loss of condition. Anaemia can also be associated with kidney disease. Always consult your vet and start treatment as early as possible.

Feeding: Diet is important. Try to feed a recipe that has lower levels of protein, salt and phosphorus.

Dose with:
- Kidney tablets to support the kidneys
- Greenleaf tablets to help remove toxins

Homeopathic remedies:
- Phosphorus 30c where is a marked increase in thirst
- Arsenicum album 30c if there is general debility or poor appetite

Recommended food supplements:
- Milk Thistle+ Powder for more severe cases
- All-in-One+ Powder to provide extra vitamins and minerals

I can also recommend our Kidney Fact Sheet which has lots of useful information.

Regards,
Damien Paton

Hi Mary

I was wondering how Mrs Miggens is doing? I was just reading through your post from November. Unfortunatly a computer hiccup has meant that some of our messages have only just come through!

Dear Marg

Is your dog still having problems with colitis? Your message has only just come through so we were wondering if you still need help? We do have some information on treating conditions like this on our website, under the advice banner – check out the fact sheets section

Hello again Tim.
What a year, Mrs Miggins was wrongly diagnosed by our vet,I asked them to xray her leg as she was only standing on three legs, they discovered that she had a torn ligament, they operated on her in january, she came through well and back to normal, until a couple of weeks ago when she started limping, now her right leg! they say its not torn just stretched so she is on steroids and glusonamine powder they are hoping that it will heal and retract back, fingers crossed, anything else i can do to help her?
Thanks Mary
